Field Trip - Clay Cafe

That's right, it's time for another class trip! The end of a themed unit means our class has a special event to celebrate all that we've learned during the unit. Since we recently completed a Rainforest unit and learned all about the animals that live there, we'll be going to Clay Cafe to paint some rainforest animals of our own.

Upon arriving at Clay Cafe the students will be able to choose one of a variety of clay rainforest animals. They will then paint them however they wish (the more creative the better!) and leave them at the cafe to be glazed and fired by the cafe staff. The finished figures will be picked up by me the next week and students will receive them in school and bring them home. Below are a couple examples of how the finished figures might look!

Each student has been given an information and permission slip to take home and have signed by a parent or guardian. Please have these slips returned by Wednesday afternoon, March 8th. In the case of a lost slip please comment below and I'll send another home or click here for one you can print off. Parents are asked to please supply your student with a drink and snack on the day of the trip.

Recycling

In our recent Rainforest unit we learned all about environments and conservation. The actions people take have an impact on the world around us, many different ecosystems, and the plants and animals that live there. Because of this, it is important that each of us does what they can to make sure they have a positive impact.

One way we can help protect the environment is by Recycling what we can and cutting down on waste. April 22nd is Earth Day, and during that week we'll be looking at many ways to reduce what we use and throw away, reuse items in our daily lives, and what items can be recycled and how, but it's never too early to start learning! Take a look at the slideshow below for an introduction to what happens to our garbage and how to begin using the Three R's.

Lego Club

It's time for an update from our Lego Club. Our busy builders have outdone themselves this week. Below are some of the Lego creations made during this week's meeting. As always, click the image to view a larger version.

For those interested in joining the Lego Club, just come to Room 106 on Thursdays after school. The club runs from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. It's free and everyone is welcome. After each club meeting our creations are taken apart (unless a student has something they'd like to finish next time) so parents who wish to see what their students have built are encouraged to come take a look at the end of the meeting.

Rainforest Unit Complete!

Hello everyone!
This week we finished our Rainforest unit. Students will be bringing home a recap newsletter reviewing all the projects we've completed and detailing our end of unit celebration. We'll be going to Clay Cafe and painting some Rainforest animals of our own.

Be sure to fill out the permission slips and send them back in by Wednesday, March 8th.

The end of a unit also means we completed our KWL charts. Ask your student to show you what they learned during the unit. Below are some pictures of the Rainforest presentation board the class made using each section of their KWL chart! All of the students worked together to  create a beautiful representation of the amazon Rainforest. Click the pictures to take a closer look.

We'll be moving on from the Rainforest next week but the presentation board will remain on display in the classroom and any parents who wish to take a closer look are welcome to drop by at the end of the day. It will also be on display during parent teacher interviews at the end of the year.
